Italian bronze chess set, 1960s. Cast figures with strong, stylised forms, divided into dark and sea-green patinas. Mythological and maritime motifs define the set, with Neptune and Salacia leading the opposing sides, supported by centurion bishops, sea-horse knights and galley pawns.
The board is hammered brass over wood, its alternating squares marked by a repeated owl motif. Original felt underside.
